5 Week Private Wheel Class

Our one or two person 5 week class welcomes students of all levels and will focus on advancing your wheel throwing skills through individual instruction. Glazing and the process of ceramics is also covered. During your first lesson your instructor will asses your skill level and tailor a syllabus to your goals. Sign up as an individual or with a friend!

If signing up with anther person, please note that your classes and open studio times will be together. If one person cannot make a class or open studio time there are unfortunately no makeups.

For beginners the syllabus will be something along the lines of:

Week 1: Basic demo and throwing skills

Week 2: Trimming

Week 3: Cylinders and shaping 

Week 4: Plates or handles

(break for one week so all work can be bisqued)

Week 5: glazing 

Intermediate students are welcome to choose from the following demos and may have a syllabus similar to the one below.

  • trimming with a chuck or slap centering

  • Plates

  • Throwing on larger scale

  • Alterations off of the wheel: darts and handles

  • Lids

  • Tea pots

  • Moon Jars

  • Finishing techniques like burnishing or sgraffito

  • Techniques for seamless glaze application

Week 1: Basic demo and throwing skills

Week 2: Trimming, specialized or not 

Week 3: specialized demo

Week 4: specialized demo preferably handles or a finishing technique 

(break for one week so all work can be bisqued)

Week 5: Glazing

  • Students will have their own shelf in the studio to store their clay, tools, and projects. The course fee includes unlimited studio clay and house glazes. (Additional clays can be purchased at the studio if desired.)

  • Students will get 4 open studio sessions (2 hours each) which will be scheduled and must be redeemed before the end of class.

  • Students must bring their own tools or purchase them from the studio for $15 or on your first day of class, and should bring their own aprons and towels if desired.

  • The student firing fee is $0.05 per cubic inch which covers the cost of bisque and glaze firing

  • All work must be completed or ready to go into the final glaze kiln by the end of the last class.

  • Students will have the option to book additional studio time ($20 per hour) if they would like more than the allotted class time.

Students must wear masks in the studio. Temperature checks will be done at the door before each class. As always, we ask that you don't come to the studio if you aren't feeling well.

*Please note that we will not be able to provide refunds for classes, credits, or move you to a later class, under any circumstances, once the class begins. Refund requests made a week before the start of class are 50% refundable, and requests made prior to a week before class are fully refundable. Unfortunately we cannot offer any makeup classes.
